From WORST To BEST: The Harry Potter Books Ranked

Harry Potter is known to be one of the longest book series, totaling to a number of 7. Of course, as an avid fan of this series, I obviously would have my personal preferences of which book is better. Not to say that I don’t love all the books, but everyone has their different idea of what they like as a favourite! Here is my ranking for the Harry Potter books.

7. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

When I first read this book, I definitely loved the basilisk storyline, along with the introduction of Ginny Weasley’s character and how her character added to the cast. One of the better moments I enjoyed was the polyjuice potion storyline Unfortunately, when comparing it to the other books, this lacks the thrill the Harry Potter hypes up. Plus, Hermoine disappearing for a couple of chapters did impact the overall result. That is not to say that I didn’t enjoy this book!

6. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

This is the book that started it all: whether it makes or breaks a series. Did it succeed? Of course! How else would we get the series we know and love? Even though I ranked it as 6th, this book definitely is a heart-clincher. However, it is still J.K. Rowling’s first novel. It’s expected that she didn’t manage to put much cohesion or explosive elements compared to the later books. Yet, it is definitely an exciting tale and a compelling way to learn about the Weasleys.

5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

This is where Harry Potter starts to grow up. No longer the little boy he was, we see him grow up and it really touches my heart. We see him experience and grow as a character, changing and trying to find his way in this world. Growing as a leader, his characterization sold me in his book; nonetheless, I still feel it could’ve been better.

4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

By the time this book finally came out, everyone had screamed because finally, the series has come to an end. Did it live up to its hype? Yes, it did! It brought the Voldemort plot to an end and it brought closure to not only the fans but to Harry’s story. Though, many fans will agree that the controversial epilogue is satisfactory, it definitely built up everything we all wanted and it did not disappoint at all. This book provided closure, nostalgia, and enjoyment for everyone.

3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Do I love epic adventures? Yes. Do I love competitions? Yes. Do I love plot twists? Yes. Does this novel have it all? 100% yes! The Goblet of Fire brings an element of surprise to the table and spices up the Voldemort plot in an interesting way. It details a lot of major plot points that come up and sets up the dark tone for the story, making the Harry Potter adventure becoming more thrilling.

2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Nothing is better than getting a break from the main storyline and focusing on character. Am I right? The introduction of Remus Lupin and Sirius Black definitely strike the audience, and even win my heart, as well. It brings its own plotline and reminds the audience of the first two novels, just for the sake of nostalgia. When the clinching ending comes, it brings emotion that hits me and I fall in love with the story again.

1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Definitely, this book is the top tier in the Harry Potter series for me. Not only does it prepare you for the upcoming and final book, it really keeps you on your toes with the different plot twists. It focuses on characters you’ve may have disliked from the start, like the Malfoy family and Professor Snape, yet it ties the entire plot together in a nicely-wrapped bow. I enjoyed how sinister the plot thickened, along with its foreshadowing and other plot devices.
